Exactly what I was saying. The whole VIN is made up. If it were from a Charger it would have X as the 6th digit not Z for starters

I cant believe its that hard to back track the people involved with this car...two or more people removed..is the bad guy...

When the authorities get involved...they take the car..and it goes to the rightful owner..the person in possession..looses his skin in the game...I vaguely remember a 62 corvette bought new that was stolen some years later..(no insurance)..the car changed hands a few times...then underwent a total restoration...then around 2010..authorities determined it was stolen..car was seized and and returned to the original owner..the guy was in his 80's

That's certainly different than what I was told when my Harley got stolen. I asked the insurance company what would happen if it was found and they told me that the police would contact them and turn it over to them. The insurance company would have ownership of the bike since they had paid me off. I asked if the insurance company would contact me to see if I wanted it back and they said no, it would go to auction, and that they didn't have the resources to track down past owners after they were paid off. They just send them to auction and recoup what they can.

Maybe that car got returned because there wasn't any insurance.

and your right about your bike...thats the procedure..and if the insurance company paid out on this car(if in fact it was stolen..)..regardless if its a Demon..a HC..or an sxt..off to the auction it goes...

Strangely enough..if the authorities dont get involved..it just might slip through the cracks for years...

Yeah, I was really hoping they would find it quickly and give me the chance to get it back.

they used to do that...now...its procedure...heaven forbid we deviate from procedure

I don't know why it would get a salvage title. If the VIN was just changed why couldn't it get changed back? Someone or many will lose money because of it being a salvage title when there may be no reason for it

I never understood why some cars with a dented fender get a salvage title

If it is changed back it will always show the removal and replacement to anyone who looks. It will scare off many buyers and cause the owner endless trouble.

The real conundrum is how the current owner obtained it. If you're the thief knowing #'s and stickers don't match why would you take it to a legal shop for any service to it? Would have liked to hear the shop owner tell the guy to come get it.

Because they don't know shit about having to use the VIN to get authentic parts. No thief would take for service, it would be a I have to sell sob story, get what you can and run like hell.

Talk about being on the short end of the stick...

Big time...the owner that did the restoration..tried to file an injunction..went to court..and tried to get the restoration money outta the original owner..arguing that at the time of the loss the value was less than 4000.00..there were even questions of the statute of limitations expiring...It went on for almost a year...the original owner prevailed..and got a gorgeous restored 62...to be honest..not sure how i feel bout the decision..
