To not think, and obey the computer.
He actually said, Mopar tells us no, but the FORUMS say it is okay. Of course I said, because we are correct and have the experience together, hey just go look at the filter you are removing and tell me what it is.

That is fine, it will be the last time. I don’t give a damn how tough it is going to be to get to that filter, I’ll be changing the oil myself.

What is an "SRT" oil filter?
Which one did the dealer want to use?

I checked the invoice for my recent oil change, the dealer used part #4884899AC for the oil filter.

So I went to MoparPartsGiant.com and looked up the oil filter for my '22 Durango SRT 392 6.4, it's the exact same one the dealer used:

Yep, we know this. That is the little black ugly one that our Hellcats come from the factory with also. It is always so tight you need a breaker bar to get them off.

In ten years of hellcats and ten years using my 2006, never purchased one of those.

You do not want to see my “invoice” for what they charged me yesterday for the one on my truck.

Okay, so I did a search for "SRT Oil Filter" and found this thread:
https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/threads/use-mopar-srt-oil-filter-for-5-7l-hemi.337705/

filter2.jpg

The SRT engineers said the SRT filter was used for the Viper. They go on to say:
"For track-day use, SRT engineers suggest using the SRT oil filter (part number 05038041AA). Originally designed for Viper applications, it works great with all Chrysler V8 engines. The SRT filter features a higher differential pressure bypass valve and reduced pressure loss across the filter element."

So the SRT engineers suggested using the SRT oil filter for track use, but didn't say it was otherwise required.

Required? Nada. However this is why some of us like it…

The dealer charged me $8.95 USD for the #4884899AC oil filter.

Up until now, I never even heard of an "SRT Oil FIlter".

Seeing how dealers like to upsell everhtying, I'm surprised they never offered it. :ROFLMAO:

We need to catch you up, you only been with us about a year. Most of us simply have alerted each other here in the Forum when the price on Amazon falls so we can stock up.

I'm still surprised my dealer never mentioned this was available when I went in for an oil change.

HI! More Durango stuff. Ha, need an oil change and I was reading my own post to remind myself to either try it myself again or bring my filter.

So this post probably interests a very small amount of folks. You have to have three no four things in common with me.

1. You have a Durango SRT
2. You have a Jeep Grand Cherokee
3. You can and do drive both in snow/slick
4. You can and do drive like a bat out of hell and have 55 years experience at driving on this shit.

So if you begin to even set one of these monsters about 1/2 way spun out and do not piss your pants, and can recover and laugh, your in. Read on.

I took the Durango out to Denver for a season or two, managed to avoid most if not all snow, had it here last year but did not drive it much. So for the last couple of days I have had it out in the slick and snow.

I do have a new set of PS4 A/S on it. They are working and riding great. In the dry. But maybe not so good in snow. I cannot blame the entire performance on the tires because I’m crazy and will push something to the limit with curiosity.

I have posted and I have said and I will say again, a Jeep Grand possesses maybe the best winter driving capabilities of anything made with tires. So I compare everything to our current eighth Jeep, a ‘18 Grand Summit 5.7L.

Fuck! The Durango sucks!! When accelerating and it senses slick, holy shit does it over compensate and pull power. Jeep does that but does not bark as bad. When a Jeep senses ANY fuckup that may even begin to cause a sideways move, that stability control can make its brakes happen. Not so much to slow down, but to correct your ass! Durango? Durango don’t care, I cannot sense anything close to the Jeep’s controller. I have tried to slide the SOB and it does slide and it does not compensate like the Jeep. Was sideways nearly coming into my drive. Ha, I may have been concerned about the mailbox, that would have been embarrassing. But when one tire got the dry pavement, bam, you better be ready for a sudden correction. On the slick? Not.

So this is not fatal or anything, I like the vehicle. We just drove it about 4,300 miles. It was great. Or she drove it, and I was the co-pilot. No way you want me driving in traffic, and she knows it well.

So disappointed but makes me appreciate what the Jeep is. I’ll either just keep this one (109,000 now), or look for a low mileage used one before they fucked them up and took the hemi out. I’ll keep the Durango for other than the worst nature can throw. Be safe and Merry Christmas!!
