Proof that a small engine can use more fuel than the real thing when asked to do something beyond a commute, a Home Depot visit, or to get a latte. But I already knew that after pulling a 16' enclosed trailer with an F-150 Ecoboost and getting much worse mileage than with my 5.7 Ram 2500.
My 10-11 mpg are from towing between 8K and 25K, and at as close to 80 mph as the terrain and curves allow. Also, keep in mind that my 3500 weighs over 9,500 by itself.
Between 7.5 and 8 mpg was what I got with my Pete 359, usually at a combined 33K lbs. And if you think that a little enclosed trailer has bad aerodynamics...
