Long story short, I had a bug to get into the 9’s with my DC Stage 2 and got to 10.018 @ 134.20 last fall with a DA of about -70. I know a simple tune would make this brainlessly easy, but I did not want to go there.
About a month ago, I prepped the car and put it on the Quick Jack waiting for the right day. This past Wednesday the DA was forecast to be very low. Maybe this was my opportunity to get a 9!
1:13pm: First run was a typical 10.068 @ 135.27. This was in Street Mode, DA -450.
1:21: Did a hot lap and tried Track Mode and got 10.072 @ 135.36. Very sad. Both runs launched at the most the car would allow foot braking without the sputtering which was about 12-1300. Chiller was working great, I/C was in the low 50’s.
Ambient was about 46deg, so let it cool and try again in 30-40min.
Then drove to the staging lines and saw a long line, I exited and went back to the pits and let it cool more. The track was closed for an hour or so because a car spilled a lubricant on the track and it was a long, slow, painful clean-up.
3:09: Clean-up finally done, 45deg, DA is -687, did 10.003 @ 136.44. Funny thing, the chiller was working when I was staging, but it was after the run it showed “not available”. I have no idea if it was operational during the run.
I decided in the next run I’ll try the technique to fool the car into a higher rpm launch. Tried to do another run but a Mustang broke something, diff, axle, not sure, track closed for another 1/2 hour….
Track cleared, but it started drizzling!!!! Track on hold! People start packing up and leaving. At this point, I’m thinking I’ll never make 9….
They start letting people run, even though there is a slight drizzle, so I get in line. Windshield is wet, chiller “not available”.
4:08: I try a 15-1600 rpm launch and spin, of course, it was wet, abort, my effort was all based on hope…
At the end of the dragway at the turn I noticed the windshield was completely dry!!! Hmmm… It not only stopped drizzling, but the moisture was evaporating…
Driving through the pits I ask Adrenlein Rush if I should try another run, he said “you are so close, why not???”. So I drive up to the line, no one there, everyone had left.
4:13pm, DA is -704, 43deg. Launched at about 1400rpm. First 60 was the slowest of the day, .014 slower than my best 1200 launch. The car obviously liked the dense air and made up the time and more to yield my personal best of 9.993 @ 136.62!
Under perfect conditions I think I could scrape another .01sec, but I don’t think it’s worth beating the car to try to achieve that. I think I am done.
I thank Adrenaline Rush for putting me on this rewarding path, to RonB (from the bad forum) for critical advice, and thanks to Bowler Guy for support and encouragement!
