- 2019 Redeye
I wasn't sure exactly where to post this, so I will start here. I put together an older 2009 with a modern 8 speed which runs great.
In the bad old days of the 80s and 90s we used to be able to lock a converter in 3rd gear and feel it lock decisively (for a while) and gain 2 or 3 mph.
I tried that again lately as soon as I shifted into 5th at WOT with a reasonably healthy 7.0L N/A Challenger out of curiosity, using a reasonably new 3rd gen (2020) HP70 with a stock scat pack converter, and it DIDN'T like it.
I assume the HP90 converters would act about the same way. That's kinda why I posted here, a larger knowledge base and a similar converter. I do have a redeye and won't bother trying it with that, or doing anything with it.
It acted like a snowmobile clutch, RPMs didn't change but the MPH increased from 104 to 109 as the converter clutches were trying to engage.
I am sure it didn't do the clutches any good and was wondering if what I was trying to accomplish is even possible with these modern factory converters ? Increasing the apply pressure and fill time didn't seem to change anything, so I will just forget about trying that again.
Maybe someone can bring me up to speed somewhat on multi-clutch setups that are made for that, that would work with a 70 or 90. I am curious.
Attached is a snip of the 4-5 shift and the attempt to lockup soon thereafter.
Thank you.
