Has anyone changed out the hydraulic power steering from a 15-18 Hellcat to an EPAS system from a 2019+ car? I'm replacing all the harnesses in my car with new as they're all hacked up from the previous owner and have the opportunity to replace them all with Demon 170 harnesses and modules, (pcm, BCM, etc.)

It only hit me last night that if I did that the car would be looking for an EPAS system and probably throw errors. I'm just wondering what all is different between the hydraulic system and the epas system, wiring obviously but I'll have that and the modules will be set up to work with it, steering rack is obviously different, but is the column any different between the systems?

I could replace all my harnesses with brand new 2015 harnesses instead, in fact I already have them but I would obviously gain a ton of functionality with the D170 stuff and don't hate the idea of getting rid of the hydraulic power steering as I've already blown up 3 PS pumps at the drag strip.

Knock sensor plugs are different. You can put the rack in. You mean all modules? Radio control module? Like you have to replace ALL of them, a lot different between years

Yeah, I have access to every module, harness, center console button bank, etc. The idea is to essentially take all the electronics that make the 170 work and throw them into my 15. I'm just not sure if the EPAS is going to become an issue or not.

Well your TCM OS has to be compatible with your PCM OS, which I’m almost certain it won’t be

Easy fix with Witech, it's a brand new 8hp90 so the TCM will have to be flashed anyways.

You can turn off EPS in the BCM, but there’s more than just swapping over the harnesses and pcm. You really need your vin written to the 170 pcm as well, which can only be done on the bench

You could get the witech to write the 170 os to the TCM if your vin comes up as a 170. Which I guess you could do first for you have your vin written to the PCM

Is all of this possible? Yes. As straight forward as it sounds? Probably not. My car was an M6 and I converted it to the A8, so I’ve have to go through some of this. But you’ll need the dash harness, probably the body harness, I mean literally everything swapped over.

Yeah, as I said the whole reason this question came up is because every module, harness, pcm, etc is getting swapped to ones from an EPAS car.

Whether I throw an EPAS rack at it and hope it works or just try disabling the EPAS in the BCM as we do when we Hellcat swap Wranglers I'm not sure yet. If it's just the rack I'll do that, but whether there are steering column differences I'm not sure as of yet.

Just the rack is different, that’s it. Know someone who has done it. Just the the rack and tie rod ends and turn it on if you’re swapping everything. Just be ready to commit to it

Often hear about the vin determining what's in the pcm. This comes up in the witech? I figured all those files would be in the dodge server somewhere, somewhere normal people eoulsnt have access to it, with say an autel scanner. Am I missing something?

Yeah, Witech pulls it off of Dodge's server, I believe. I don't know all the ins and outs of it, but I have friends who work for Stellantis who have Witech dongles that say they can flash whatever to be whatever I want it to be. That said, we are using a D170 PCM, D170 BCM, and all the other modules as well. All the wiring, IE dash harness, body harness, engine harness etc we will be using are brand new D170 harnesses as well.

I have all new 2015 Hellcat harnesses sitting here too and just trying to decide if its worth it to go the D170 route. I think it would be.

Yeah, sounds like a good plan, if you have all the parts/modules and can get the modules flashed.

Just trying to make a demon from a 2015 challenger?

It's a 2015 Hellcat that has had the factory wiring hacked by the previous owner.

It's getting a 411 with Thitek heads, OST Dyno Demon Plus cam, Whipple 3.8, etc etc etc.

The harnesses need to be replaced regardless for me to feel good about it. There are a few reasons we came up with to put the D170 stuff in, mostly because the 15-17 electronics aren't as robust as the 2018+ stuff, IE the PCM can only read 17 PSI etc. We figure if we go this route we can get the D170 transbrake working, gain line lock, the factory chiller function etc.

Was wondering about all them features. Be nice if you can get them working.

In theory it should all work when it's done as the car will just think its a 170, but we all know how these things go.

If you have the fund patience and access to all the parts I’d do it. Interested how you came across everything

Think that database is what has all the sales codes pertaining to the vehicle. If you add towing package, it won't work unless you turn those modules and stuff on with alfa odb. Think when they add the sales package it does all that on the backend then they flash the car and it updates that module and now everything works (theoretically)

Be interesting to see how this all works. But I guess if you gave them a demon vin it would have all the packages. Then I guess you just change the vin to match and disable communication so it can't download a new update for the different new vin?
