Now...after Covid he rarely goes...does it all on line..
I haven't been there since the 90s so I'm sure that it's totally different now.

Correct.
Starting this year, cars from 2014 and newer can run without a cage down to 9.0 and up to 150mph.

https://www.dragzine.com/news/nhra-announces-exciting-2014-newer-oem-street-car-rules/
One of a few articles about it. Or go consult a 2022 NHRA rule book.
IHRA made similar adjustments as well.
"An NHRA Level 6 license is required for drivers running quicker than 10.00 (*6.39) or faster than 135 mph. "

Whats a level 6 license?

Since you asked... sorry it's a little small, had a hard time fitting it into one image

Thanks, Ron. So to run in any Street Legal NHRA event they want 65 bux/yr, yes? What about local test and tunes? I've done this and never paid any license fee (only the local strip's TnT fee).

Have you run 9s?
Normally its up to the track. Some tracks are really lax on stuff and others treat it very seriously.

You might get a pass the first and/or second time but they will likely ask you to not return until you meet safety requirements.

I have run it at Bandemere but at 5500 ft (in the late summer) I barely got into the 10s (and was happy, lol)! I thought the new rule allows you to run as low as 9.0 with no rollbar or other special safety equipment. Has this new rule not gone into effect yet? I guess the "license" part threw me a bit. Not sure what type of paperwork they needed (presumably only for NHRA-sanctioned events, not TnT or other private events like the Legion of Demons, etc).

You only need it if you are in the 9s. And some tracks at TNT won't care either way

This.
Running in the 10s, you are fine and don't need to worry about a license etc.

But the new rules are in effect. You can take your Demon, add better DRs, pulley, e85 etc and go run 9.50s and be fine.

I said when the Demon was being hyped up that it was a 10 flat car because the NHRA was not going to budge on their 9.99 rule.

But now you have barely modded ZL1s, Hellcats, Redeyes, GT500s, ZR1s, Z06s, Tesla Plaids etc all capable of dipping into that zone, that they needed to revaluate that decision.
