I have several friends who own Porsche 911 GT2's and GT3's. They absolutely love them. They are extremely fun cars on a road course track. I wouldn't mind opening one of those or a GT4 Cayman

I’ve always wondered about that. The bodies look about the same. I don’t really follow Porsches so I don’t know to what extent they’ve modified the underpinnings. I’m guessing they have but it seems they never get bagged on by the media about it being an old platform or the styling needs to be updated. Maybe it’s just that good?
It's based on the beetle platform from ww2. Modified, but that's the lineage.

Should I let you know when my girlfriend is about to get rid of her GT4? Seems like she's about to buy something, and the Cayman is probably the most likely to go.

I think I drove a GT4 (can't remember the model exactly) at a track event back in October. It was awesome to drive but a little shy on amenities. The handle to open the door was a nylon strap

Yep, but then they ruined the simple functionality by installing power windows. DSCN4655[1].JPG

That thing sounded phenomenal at WOT. I mean how much weight did they actually save with that strap vs a handle? A couple ounces maybe?

Well, there are two doors, so twice the weight savings right there. What else they saved weight on I don't know.
But whatever savings they achieved must be largely offset by that big clothes drying rack on the back.

Just looking at the different models of the 911 that were / are built is mind boggling. You have to really research what each one is before figuring out what to buy.

Skip right to the 911 Turbo S. Done.

Unless you prefer the Cayman, in which case there are options from a 4-banger to fast versions.

Cayman is much cheaper but doesn't have the zing of the 911.

It cost how much and you get a strap to close the door:unsure:
I think that it's the door latch not the pull.

I'm not looking to buy anytime soon. It will be a couple of years.

Maybe not, but while she had a couple of Turbo S 911s (well, one at a time), my girlfriend still claimed that her lowly 4-banger Cayman, complete with a stick shift, was her favorite car.

And I can see why they handle great, despite not having AWD and all kinds of electronic wizardry. I have limited seat time in any of` them, but she's a bit of a handling connoisseur and I have no reason not to believe her.

Heck, I think it's great fun to push a Challenger through the corners.

Hitler wanted a car for the masses to buy.
Mercedes Benz turned him down.
Dr Porsche wanted to build race cars but didn't know how to finance it.
Brought his kDf wagen design to Berlin.
Beetle was born. (named that after WW2)
Porsche got his $$$ to build race cars.

In a nutshell, thats the history.

Cayman is a better handling car over the 911.
However like Corvette/Camaro, the Cayman always gets neutered in favor of the 911.

To me, the Carrera T is probably my favorite out of the line up. A turbo 3.0L with upgraded turbos and a tune will make well over 500whp. In a 3000lbs car with a stick and buckets.
The cars are a blast to drive.

And back with the ADMs, when you start looking at a 7 year old Dodge for 90k for 717hp or 100k for 807hp, those used 911 prices don't seem so bad at 100-120k range.

thats what everyone says, got 15000 om mine now with no issues except tire wear and squeaky front brakes if i dont clean them regularly. Mechanical issue reputation probably why you can find such good deals relatively speaking on used ones. when I sold my challenger when the used car market started going crazy,i was looking at getting a wide body charger hellcat but the prices were crazy high especially if you could find a red eye, picked up my M5 and put a tuner on it, got a 700 hp AWD sedan with less than 7000 miles for 80 grand out the door, not quite as aggressive looking as the charger wide body but its still a beast. time will tell
