I searched and didn't find much to sorry if this has been covered before.

My 170 will be coming up on the end of the 3yr 36K mile warranty at the end of the year and I'm considering an extended warranty for it. I've never bought one before as I usually modified my cars, but the 170 doesn't really need anything to be honest so I'm looking at one for it.

I thought I could buy one at the end of the 3yr, say a 5yr extended, and get 8 years total, but reading on the Mopar warranties it sounds like they don't start on the purchase date, but are retro back to the in service date of the vehicle. That seems kinda dumb to me or at the very least mis-leading.

I'm also reading conflicting information on if it covers track breakage like the factory warranty does.

Anyone got the scoop or suggestions?

I checked on one for the C8 Z06 and it starts the day it's purchased.

The Mopar stuff is NOT like the z06. Starts the day the vehicle is put into service. Looked into it for my Durango and after 6 months the rates go up pretty steep and I'm not sure there's much benefit other than extending your bumper to bumper to match your Powertrain

Z06 starts the day you buy the warranty from what I found. I was hoping I'd missed something.

I've found a 7yr Mopar (4 addl years) for like $2500.

As I recall the MOPAR warranties begin on the in-service date, pricing depends on if your OE 3/36 has expired and your current mileage.
I would triple check with the seller to make sure it covers track breakage ;)

Oh. It does? That's not at all when it sounded like. That's actually sweet for the ZO6 then...

Yeah. Mopar peeps get the bone on warranty. Totally goes by vehicle purchase/in service date.

Look on YT, lately I've seen repair shop complaining about needing pre-approvals, not getting them, or only partial approval.

They describe it as being like health insurance approvals

So from busting my system at 10k miles and requiring a rather large approval, I got some experience with warranty. It was simple to get thru the gate. Were you racing?

Yes- forget it, not covered. We have went thru this before.

No- okay…If it is really a test and tune only, if no times are recorded btw people, no boards show results, the word racing was discussed and “this is not a race”, like happens on HPDE safety talks. Can you guys point to things like this if you bust it at the strip also? I happened to have always shared my lapping videos with the service department! ALL of that was considered for over two weeks in detail along with inspections of the car (absolutely NO work was done to modify the engine (intake to the tires). Brought the car in on a trailer with the OEM wheels/tires on it even! Do not screw around with the slightest detail. I got lucky.

@Speedy! my guess is that you can “self insure” that extended warranty;), AND you have the confidence in that machine that it will not fail after three years now, unless something really strange happens. Those are my thoughts as I tuned the Redeye and actually filed to accept a 100% refund a couple years ago of the $3k I gave them the day I purchased it for the extended warranty.

My 170 has been flawless (knock on wood) and while I can technically self insure, I'd not wanna get in to a trans, engine, or really even a drive shaft replacement since even that tends to do quite a bit of damage if I could get an extended one for $2500 that gets refunded if not used. Seemed like a win win.

The 170 is covered on track with the factory warranty, I'll have to do some asking around to see if it's covered by the add on as it's sold as an extension of the factory warranty.

Z06 is a no brainer. I'll be getting one for it.
