Based on Ron's recommendation, had the local Dodge dealer install the tune on Friday, went to Cecil today for test and tune. No or very little prep, greasy surface and 84/85 degrees. Spinfest launching on 1st gear so launched in 2nd gear. 9.30- the tune is good. Stock car.

A Fox body mustang was in the other lane, it was missing a hood and was blown or turbo, I was waiting for him to blast by me (most likely had a LS motor- they almost all do).

I am down to two (2) tracks, (Atco and Englishtown are gone) and because of costs, there is very little track prep for test and tune events, so it appears. I am probably giving up on 1st gear launches at test and tune events. Ron gets the fly paper prepped tracks, I get the ice skating rink (I know for $ 30 to $ 60.00 entrance fee you get what you get and like it).

I mostly race Mason Dixon but love them other 2 tracks.

Within 1.5/2 hours, its Cecil, Island or Maple Grove. Never been Mason Dixon, the 170 is growing on me, so much less drama running a car stock. Speedy mentioned purchasing the extended warranty on his 170, I may do the same.

Yes, my go to (now) is Maple Grove or Cecil. Island has a ridiculously short shut down and if you run out, its over a ravine. I ran 8.96 there 6 years ago (in my hellcat) and burned the brakes up in the shut down.

That wheelie is INSANE. Man I wish they would do the trans brake for older cars.
That is 3 different tracks approximately100 foot wheelies.1.32, 1.34 and 1.35 sixty on the back tires. The car would NEVER do that before. It also did 1.20 sixty foot twice at 2350 and 1880 DA. It would NEVER do that before. It's crazy.

He has my read of the new Cal. I did not give him permission to share it. He has not done the recall yet that I know if. I think it is just him being cautious. He can share his findings and any screen shots if he wants. Maybe wait to share his own read if he chooses. @Speedy!

The factory 170 tune can be found line pretty easy if you look and I don't share information someone else gives me, just a policy I've had since the beginning.

I've not had the new tune loaded on my 170 yet. From the review other than what I think are some pretty significant drivability changes I wouldn't expect this tune to be faster on the surface, but Ron's testing has shown otherwise. Maybe the shift points being more optimized perhaps or the trans changes I don't fully understand may have an impact but I think Ron's seeing 2-3/10ths faster times if memory serves.

Ron does a ton of testing on the 170 and shares his findings, accomplishments, and failures so I try to give him help and information whenever I can.

This information would likely only matter to a 170 owner, but I did sift through the original 170 calibration comparing it to the new one through HPTuners and this is what I saw...some of it I understand some of it, like the trans stuff, is over my head but there were A LOT of changes. So much so it's almost like the original tune was a beta.

Misfire for cat temp was lowered from 1746° F to 1701.

A few launch control changes mainly in RPM and error rates.

They lowered WOT timing by about 2°-3° in the gasoline WOT timing table in the 2464 – 3392 RPM range.

They lowered WOT timing in the thermal spark table 1-2° in gasoline thermal spark table in boost.

They increased timing 2° in the IAT Spark Hot table in the 1664 – 3392 RPM range in boost.

They lowered knock sensor sensitivity A LOT. In some cases 50%+.

They bumped max torque limits A LOT from around 1099 to 1932 lb-ft.

They rescaled and adjusted the max torque allowed at various IMAT temps quite a bit. Anything over 284°F IMAT is basically neutered now. Not a bad thing per se’. 284 is hot but a lot different than before.

Several changes to the throttle pedal which look to me like mostly drivability.

Several shift RPM changes at WOT for the 1-2, 2-3, 3-4, 4-5, 5-6, and 6-7 gear changes. All of them lowered in shift pattern 5 which is what I remember seeing in my Hellcat a lot in sport. In first it’s lowered from 5,190 RPM commanded shift rpm to 4400 for the 1-2 and from 5940 to 5575 on the 2-3 for example.

Nearly all the upshift clutch pressures are adjusted, but kind of all over the place up and down in various rpm range and torque requests. Same for downshift.

They made quite a few changes to the torque converter. Some of them are fill times (slower than original) and some 1st gear (more) and 2nd gear (less) pressure ramp. I don’t understand the transmission enough to know what these are for.

Max torque limits for upshift were changed for all gears from 959 lb-ft to 1918 lb-ft.

Torque intervention in normal mode was adjusted for every gear. I’d guess mainly drivability as some are more some are less but in sport the 1-2 is totally zero’d out where it was -4 in the original. The 2-3 is almost the same as original, but they lessen torque reduction by about half at max torque and 5504 and 6496 rpm.

They changed the radiator cooling fan speed slowing it a bit below 105° F ambient. The fans scale with temp and they moved it from 208° F desired coolant temp to 210.

They bumped up the torque delta fault code thresholds about 50% from 74 lb-ft to 110 lb-ft.

I understand some people of hesitate to share. That why I ask if anyone has one they are willing to share. Never hurts to ask.
