Got word back from the attendee, instructor apparently no longer pushes the cylinder deactivation, but is still negative on eco mode in HC's.

For the record, this is what the 170 Supplement says:

Eco mode offers increased fuel efficiency and quieter exhaust character, as well as a more relaxed throttle pedal recommended for wet weather conditions.

• Eco (if selected, will stay active on subsequent igni-
tion cycles): Offers quieter exhaust character, maxi-
mized fuel efficiency, and increased throttle pedal
control for wet weather. Shift paddles are disabled.
Steering and suspension settings are configurable.

I haven't noticed a change to the pedal or exhaust based on a few dozen miles driving around town, but the difference in the trans it huge! I'm guessing the bulk of the "eco" is earlier upshits on mild throttle and the less aggressive downshifting.

I plan to keep it in eco unless I plan to play a bit. ;)

In Eco I’ve still noticed downshifting that I say is aggressive but I’ve only driven it for 50 miles in Eco. Probably won’t do it again because I need to piss off the corvette guys at the end of the subdivision.😂

The very few vettes I see at Land Speed Trials and dragway are very disappointing. I have to assume they are good on a road course.

Speaking of ECO freak mode, what setting do you normally use when racing, DGatzby?

I'm sure you've mentioned it at some point, but I forgot. Anyway, at Radford the instructor told me to try turning all the nannies off on the autocross course. I did, and couldn't really notice any difference.

Being the first time I had changed any settings I didn't know what to expect and lost about a second in two laps, after that I was back to my normal lap times, and it didn't feel any different.

Yes, had a rear end twitch once, but that also happened later on the longer and much faster track with everything turned back on. Now I'm starting to doubt always driving with everything turned on. I might be able to save my butt if coming in too hot in a curve by being able to induce oversteer.

Here's what I've observed with ECO mode on a Hellcat:

It limits boost pressure to a mutiplier (fraction) of max. So on a stock hellcat you get about 5psi as the bypass opens to bleed off the other 6psi.

HOWEVER, the car DOES NOT enter PE (power enrichment) at WOT so it stays at 13.5 AFR on gasoline. This is not what I'd program it to if I were the calibration engineer as 5psi of boost at WOT and 13.5 AFR would get things too warm EGT wise for my taste.

I've never tested it on the 170 but my gut says it acts the same.

SO, my OPINION, if you're just cruising around then no harm in ECO but do NOT go WOT.

As an added note, on the Hellcat when I went to smaller SC pulley and upped the boost, I made a lot more than 5psi in ECO mode which is quite dangerous actually to the engine. That's how I learned about the multiplier and the need to go in and rescale it to maintain a lower boost threshold. I did this through the black key multiplier table. I'll have to look at the 170 tune file to see where it is in there.

I don't think that'll be a problem, I don't believe there is anywhere I can legally give the 170 WOT except the dragway! :)

Since you mentioned it... Last summer at Land Speed Trials I did a run in the RE. On the return road I put it in Street Mode so it would shift more gently on the 2.5mi drive back at 40mph. I did a hot lap, and was 2mph faster!!! I forgot and did the 2nd run in Street!!! :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

And now that you mentioned it, I kept it in 3rd gear on the autocross and 3rd for almost all of the longer track. Only on the longest straight was 4th needed.

Didn't want any auto shifts at the wrong moment, and using the paddles is easier said than done in sharp curves.
