Should I wait until 1st oil change to install an oil catch can ? Or does it matter ?

Doesn’t matter. If there’s any break-in material in the oil, it won’t be present in any oil vapors.

edit: You are likely to get more oil vapors before the rings are fully seated. So, putting one on sooner than later is a good idea if you’re concerned. Lots of folks don’t think they’re necessary at all.

But why chance excess oil crankcase vapors not being burned off ? And maybe fouling plugs or just forming on rings/pistons ? Nasty stuff , imo. For ~$300 or so(Billet Technologies), I'd rather have it.

My thought is catch cans might help and can’t hurt.

I have a Billet Tech on my HC, but UPR gets the most love around here and may be a better choice without spending significantly more.

My thought is that any oil caught and prevented from recirculation is a good thing.

One thing that many overlook is that the oil that is vaporized is the most acidic of the oil for consideration, so any caught is even that much better.

And the last consideration, and really it should be the first, is that oil LOWERS fuel octane, so keeping it out of recirculation, and therefore combustion is in our best interest given these motors.
