My RedEye Just Went Bonkers

Hi Folks! It's been a very, very long time since I posted here. Been dealing with some health issues and wife's dementia and I just lost interest in my Hellcat. Okay, here's the point of my post. After sitting for several months in my garage on a battery tender, I went to start the car (out of guilt for not doing so for a long time). The battery was completely dead. I mean as a door nail. I put it on a portable charger (Wolfbox), started it and that's when all Hell broke loose; lights flashing, horn going off, rough idle, the wrath of God coming down on me. It's also had a blank screen. My question is, could it be that the gas went bad or that the battery did not have enough charge to run the electronics? I don't know. I'm going to replace the battery (which looks like a difficult job) and see what happens. Your thoughts. Anyone else have this happen to them. Thanks. I hope all of you are doing well!!

It was alarming when it happened.
The battery ended up needing to be replaced.

So will an Irish wife from time to time....but these guys are right..replace the battery..(make sure it has a full charge)...drive it a while..try and run it for an hour...your problems will be over...and your health will get better...

Besides the battery being replaced, much of the behavior can be attributed to the various systems needing to be reset, this can take several starts and a bit of time.

yep - new battery, these modern computers on wheels are very sensitive to power quality - have had the same happen on my other non-Mopar vehicles and it scares the piss out of ya if you're not ready for it lol

Replacing the battery isn't a big job, but I wonder if an autoparts store would be willing to do it?

These cars are insane voltage sensitive. When my battery is very low, like almost not start low, the screen will show a Chrysler logo, and only very basic (non Hellcat) engine gauges. The radio will also not put any sound out of the speakers at all. The only fix is a FULLY charged battery, and a few starts to let things reset in computerland.

First check the battery to see if it is fully charged or able to hold a charge. A trickle charger will not do. I would take it out and bring it to a shop that can charge it and check it before I buy a new battery. On the other hand, a new battery will probably solve the problem.

My vote is a bad battery. We had the original battery in the wife's 2014 Charger (Yeah it lasted 10 years!!!) Then it started having goofy electrical glitches. We thought it had gone Skynet self-aware because in the middle of the night it would start contacting nearby phones and trying to link to them through the radio system. The dealer thought I was nuts and hallucinating...until they had it in their garage bay one day and it started trying to contact and link with the tech's phone while he was standing next to his workbench, talking to a fellow employee. The car was off with no keyfob near it and the radio was displaying the name of the guys phone asking to link with it. We replaced the battery with a new, fresh one all the shenanagans stopped.

The original battery had a bad cell or two. It would show 12 volts and 13+ when charging with the car running, but it would intermittently drop to 9 volts under load.

As others have mentioned, my guess would be the battery. My understanding is electronics in newer cars can be very finicky with any voltage related issues...

I agree with most of the above. I would also recommend throwing your battery tender in the trash and getting another brand. I have been using the HF cheap crap on my cars, tractor and Bobcat and everything has been working perfectly. The tractor battery still has its 5/12 sticker on it.

The HF trickle charger I used many years ago failed and ruined the battery. Used "Battery Tenders" since, 4 or 5 of them on different vehicles without any issues.

Thanks everyone. Bought a Die Hard battery yesterday. I'll keep you posted. By the way, removing the old battery wasn't too hard.

Yeah...and a battery was $35.00
