I insert dipstick with hash marks facing towards front of car/me. Otherwise you get 2 different readings from the front of stick vs back.

Front of hash marks

Back of hash Mark's

What do you all do?

Mine has the new style "blade" dip stick and I actually like the cable version like you have better.

I put the has marks inboard toward the engine. You can't really orient the blade style front/back.

Never really payed attention to orientation, is there a significant difference or just like a diamond's diff? I always use the same side I see when pulling it...

I believe so, front side facing you seems to show higher level vs back side. Always assumed you check side facing you thus put dipstick cable with hash marks forward. Just curious.

Either way you look at it, it is within spec.

I believe strongly in proper orientation when checking my oil. I always try to be standing while doing it. When lying on the motor, or worse, on the ground, it significantly adds to the difficulty of the reading and is usually inaccurate to boot.

I have never heard/read a definitive answer from SRT on this. The book says 7 qts but it NEVER read correctly on the stick. (I have early model 6.1 with blade dipstick). I wasn't 100% sure if you should go to what the STICK read or the BOOK (again with no def answer from the authority). I then did a fresh oil change with filter and did the full 7qt change. Drove car and let sit awhile. Whatever it read (was over) I marked with a score on the stick. That way regardless I know exactly where the true full 7 qt. mark is.

I have been told my could take be measured at 7 but that was in mm. Never a disappointed dick stick interview entrance front or back. Sticks get stuck at times and start over.

Take a reading after an oil change probably better the next morning after the first drive. Check it both ways then you will know where it should be full.

I hated the bullet style dipstick. yeah it is a little easier to put in. But if that is a problem for anyone they shouldn't be doing it anyway. They are hard to read. FCA with their oil change requirements. the oil is not dirty enough to see it .Easier to see the sheen in the light on the blade style.

Don't let the orientation bother you. No matter which way it swings, it still does the job you pay it to do ;)

I’d think gender fluid would be the proper orientation here.

hey...I don't judge how oriented the fluid is...just as long as it does what I need it to do

I put in 6 then check the level. I fill it slowly until it's between the hashmarks. I've never been able to put all 7 in due to residual. Better to slightly underfill than overfill.
