The HellCat and GT350 both are open but the DSRT is enclosed(for now).

I get the idea that more air is gonna flow with open box but also more dirt, grime and bugs too...i.e. Filter gonna get dirty quicker as well.

Is there really that much advantage/disadvantage to choose one or the other?

Worse part of open box would be the engine digesting hot under hood air which is why alot of folks go with the closed, such as JLT.

I like the closed for just those reasons. I doubt there is a huge difference with the open as far as performance goes.

who remembers the old round air cleaners on carburetors and then flipping the lid upside down and putting the wing nut back on to get more air ?

I even did that on my mom's '79 Malibu wagon just to hear that big Quadra-Jet roar when I stomped the gas pedal :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

I have the open headlight and the T/A CAI on my car and I really didn't see a huge difference in how dirty my filter was, and that was when it was my daily driver. I'm sure the filter got dirtier quicker, but I don't live in a high dust area like the desert.

Yup, did that on my Buick GS’s. I never really noticed a difference.

I have a LMI on my Hellcat and the OEM on my Redeye. I know the HHP tune is tweaked for the LMI and the sound is awesome. The Redeye seems really quiet.

If you start sucking in heated engine bay air, seems to me the ECU will retard the timing to prevent ping, but I could be wrong.
There is also the issue of the filter getting wet.

Me either, but he is in St. Pete FL & I believe the DSRT is his daily driver. No way to avoid the high heat, sitting in traffic & torrential rain almost daily for a large part of the year !

I have the Afe Pro 5R , which I really like , the sound & looks good , I don't think it's pulling in that much heat & that would be only when sitting still for a while , when moving it's getting ambient air just like stock box , but I think the stock air filter box is also good up to about 800 rwhp. I have the JLT hood vent shield on to hold in air & keep water out but it's not a DD so not a problem with me.

RacerX is running a stock air box on his 1000hp Hellcat Charger.

Remember taking the circular filter out, looming at it, and then banging it on the drive way and knocking a cup full of sand on the ground, then inspecting it again and putting that sob back in the air cleaner?

Lol

Hell yeah cuz I needed that 2.59 for beer...not another air filter...it was good enough after you banged it out :)

Oh yea. On my 75' PW. "Bang it and flip it" Good to go. Buying a new filter was a choice between eating well and drinking better. 🍻😂

Yeah , the stock box works really well.
So I have this question posted, Is the stock box with a drop in cloth filter as good as a CAI?

The paper Hellcat filter is as good as it gets. Testing the stock set up against a JLT and the Legmaker the stocker was faster on a stock Hellcat and also faster on a Hellcat with a pulley at the track

I have a Hellcat setup up on my Challenger R/T
