That’s a good idea for the air ducts, that’s my issue - if this is a street car, down here you have to deal with sand and potential flash storms. Filters would get clogged quickly, and you’d have to risk possible water ingestion
And ya drive it in the rain:unsure:....good thing yer not up north you'd be drivin it in a blizzard

Even as a race car. I would not drive it back to the pits or anywhere without filters. You will have to tow/push it everywhere except down the track. That means you’re going to be compromised by the airflow limitations the filters. I’ve seen a number of Pro Mod level cars feeding big turbos thru the rear of the hood.

Always amazed me people just drive around with open turbos. How much hp are you saving by not having a filter? I just do not understand 😕

Pulled the big conical off my DragPak Whipple and replaced it with a bell on the dyno. Saw +70 rwhp. Driving around…. You’re right. Never.

And HP is too easy to make to not run them. Managing the hp and tuning the chassis are different animals entirely.

Wouldn't have guessed 70hp for a filter. How much power you think the engine makes?

So the air filter cost about 5% hp overall. Way more than I thought it would

I think all’s good until you hit the airflow limit of the filter (there has to be one) and it becomes a restriction. On a 1000hp engine it’s getting all the air it needs with that filter. Then as the power goes up, it’s going to need more than what that filter flows without restriction and it becomes a big limiting factor fast. My engine is a 426 seeing 25 lbs boost at 7200 rpm and found that limit. The original point was concerning the Hellion turbo filters. Absolutely necessary considering where the turbos are. The Sipple Hellcat with Barth tuning just ran 7.70 at 180 mph on the small Hellions. That car is a 4000 lb 8 speed/IRS. We’re talking 2000 hp to do that. I didn’t think that was possible but here we are. There was no mention of nitrous so with benefit of the doubt given…. there wasn’t any.
